DATELINE PARIS, MARCH 24, 2010. NEWSFLASH... OFFICIALS FROM INTERPOL CONFIRMED RUMORS TODAY THAT WORLD-FAMOUS GAME DESIGNER (AND NOTED RAIL TRAVEL AFICIONADO, ALAN R. MOON, HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED, APPARENTLY WHILE TOURING EUROPE ABOARD THE LUXURY ORIENT EXPRESS TRAIN LINE. ACCORDING TO AN UN-NAMED SOURCE WITHIN THE INTERNATIONAL POLICE AGENCY, THE KIDNAPPERS HAVE THREATENED MOON'S LIFE IF THEIR DEMANDS ARE NOT MET BEFORE THE TRAIN REACHES ISTANBUL.
A REWARD OF $500 HAS BEEN POSTED BY DAYS OF WONDER FOR THE FIRST PERSON WHO CAN ASSIST THE AUTHORITIES IN SOLVING THE CRIME. TO DO SO THEY MUST FIGURE OUT THE FIVE KEY ELEMENTS OF THE CRIME - WHO DID IT, WHAT METHOD WAS USED, WHERE IT OCCURRED, WHY THEY DID IT, AND WHEN IT HAPPENED.
THE KIDNAPPERS -- CONFIDENT THAT THEY WON'T BE CAUGHT -- ARE TAUNTING INVESTIGATORS BY BRAZENLY ANNOUNCING THAT THEY WILL RELEASE A SERIES OF CLUES BOTH ONLINE AND OFFLINE AS TO WHAT THOSE FIVE ELEMENTS ARE. AFTER THE FINAL CLUES ARE RELEASED, THE FIRST PERSON WHO CAN FIGURE OUT ALL FIVE ELEMENTS AND ENTER THEM ON THE DAYS OF WONDER WEBSITE WILL WIN THE $500 REWARD... AND THE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL THANKS OF ALAN MOON.
This contest works just like Mystery Express plays. Alan's "kidnapping" has been carried out in a very specific way and contestants must figure out the five specific elements that make up the crime:
• Who did it? -- the name of the Suspect
• Why? -- what was their Motive
• What was used to perpetrate the crime? -- Modus Operandi
• Where did it occur? -- the Location on the train
• What time did it happen? -- the Time of the kidnapping
The correct answers will come directly from the game - i.e. the crime elements on the Mystery Express cards. Just like in the game, you must rule out possibilities, by whether or not you have seen at least TWO distinct and separate clues; or in the case of Time, at least THREE separate clues. (Note: you can learn how the board game works on the Mystery Express Web Page or download the Mystery Express Rules.
Where will I find the clues? We'll release a series of clues. ONLY clues that originate from Days of Wonder are considered official, so you should not trust those that come from other sources. It could be someone trying to throw you off the track.
Official clues will be found on:
• daysofwonder.com website and news blog
• DOW Online Facebook Page
• Days_of_Wonder Twitter Feed
• Game retailers who sell Days of Wonder products
How do I enter? Contestants can enter their answers on the Days of Wonder website. Final answers will not be accepted until the last Time element clues are released. And you can only enter once, so you need to be sure of your answers.
Like in Mystery Express, part way through the contest, you will have the chance to send in a "Telegram from Budapest” with your best guesses - even though we have not given out all the clues. The first 10 Telegrams to be entered on the website that correctly name the most crime elements will win a copy of Mystery Express.
